HTC S630 Review
The HTC S630, also known as the HTC Cavalier is the successor to the HTC S620. They are both smartphone devices designed to be an all in one convergence device to make your life just a little bit (and sometimes a lot) easier. The S630 isn’t an overly large device. Its size of 112.5 x 62.5 x 13.5 mm (4.4 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches) and weight of 120 g (4 ounces) means that it can definitely fit in a pocket and not feel like a burden. It also has a 2 megapixel camera for taking quick shots while on the go.
The HTC S630 operates on Tri and Quad bands, GSM and UMTS, HSDPA respectively. It also has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (802.11 b and g), making this a truly take anywhere kind of phone. It also has USB support for easy connectivity and syncing as well as charging and Internet Sharing. The S630 comes with 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of ROM which is expanded with microSD cards. It runs at nice speeds off of a Samsung SC32442, 400 MHz processor.
The non touch screen is a 2.4 incher with 320 x 240 pixels of resolution. Its color transflective (TFT) and can display over 65,000 colors. The display is clear and bright and can be seen even under bright sunlight. It’s capable of displaying MP4 and WMV and other types of video files through the Windows Media Player Mobile. The camcorder feature can capture video in MP4, Motion JPEG, and H.263 formats and comes with various settings to play with for audio and video capture.
The sound quality is ok and the S630 can also playback AAC, MP3, WAV and WMA files. It has a speakerphone and is capable of voice dialing. You can make voice memos as well through the S630’s built in microphone. The battery life is usually the price you pay for so many features, but not a problem with the S630. The S630 is reported to have a talk time of up to 6 hours and a standby time of up to 200 hours.
The S630 is a Windows Mobile 6 device and comes with Mobile Office out of the box. Mobile Office includes the mobile versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. There is also a PDF reader as well. There is also support for many of the popular HTML email clients as well as Outlook. This includes Direct Push email support as well. There are messaging features as well such as SMS and MMS, but instant messaging is also here, including Windows Live Messenger (and Live Search too).
There are vast amounts of third party applications available for this device, which is really the case with almost any smartphone. So you are not just limited to the software provided by HTC, there are plenty of other things to give you even more functionality and usability. That makes this smartphone a good choice for anybody looking for something that offers a PDA environment with the convenience of a mobile phone.
