Motorola Q9h Review
The Motorola Q9h measures 4.6 inches high by 2.6 inches wide by 0.4 inch deep and weighs 4.7 ounces, at not even half an inch thick, this smartphone is pretty thin. You can definitely fit it in your pocket but would probably feel better with it in a holster. It has a 2.5 inch non touch QVGA screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It can display over 65,000 colors. By all accounts images and text are sharp and bright on this device. It also has a light sensor ability that adjusts the lighting of the screen depending on the ambient light around it. This means that it can automatically brighten if you are in a darker area and vice versa.
The Q9h has the usual soft keys and launcher buttons, as well as a five way navigational pad, with a center select key. Its QWERTY keyboard has large tactile buttons, so it’s very easy to use and not frustrating at all. On the back of the device is the microSD expansion slot. Also on the back is the 2 megapixel camera with a digital zoom, a flash, and video-recording capabilities.
The Motorola Q9h is powered by a 355MHz Texas Instruments OMAP processor. It comes with 96 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM which is expandable by microSD. The battery has a rated talk time of 5.5 hours and a standby time of up to 19 days.
The Motorola Q9h runs Windows Mobile 6, so you get all of the functionality that comes with this mobile operating system. That includes real-time e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization with Outlook. The Q9h also has the ability to work with other types of email accounts including POP3 and IMAP html clients such as Gmail and Yahoo. It also comes with AT&T Xpress Mail and is compatible with Good Mobile Messaging for added email functionality. The most popular instant messaging clients are also accessible through the Q9h including Yahoo, Windows Live and AIM.
For documents and general productivity, the Q9h includes the Dataviz’s Documents to Go suite of Office products. Documents to Go gives you the ability to view, edit and create Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. It also has the power to display PDF files. Now you won't have to leave your work at home when you have other places to go. You can even compress them to save space. The Q9h comes with a built in ZIP manager.
Other personal information management tools on the Motorola Q9h include all of the Personal Information Management tools that you would expect from a device of this type. Calendar, tasks, notepad, voice recorder, calculator etc., they are all there plus more.
The Q9h can work over Quad Band GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900, as well as Dual Band WCDMA 850 and 1900 frequencies. It can transmit data over EDGE, GPRS, and HSDPA (3G) networks. It also supports Bluetooth as well as many different profiles for added Bluetooth functionality, including A2DP for stereo headsets. The Q9h also comes with a built in Assisted GPS (A-GPS). Since it’s assisted, it needs other software for functionality, such as Google Maps or TeleNav.
The built in mobile version of Windows Media Player is capable of playing back MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WAV and WMA audio formats. As far as video, it supports H.263, MPEG4, WMV and H.264 formats. You can also stream music and videos as well as listen to XM satellite radio from this device.
The Motorola Q9h has enough features for anybody looking for a capable smartphone. Its media and productivity features powered by the Windows Mobile OS give this phone more than enough juice to do all of the things you want it to.
