The O2 XDA Flame is a smartphone device distributed by O2. As its name implies, it comes from the O2 XDA family of PDA and smartphone devices. Its dimensions come in at 126 x 74 x 17.5 mm (5" x 2.9" x 0.7") and weighs in at 190g. Its TFT VGA touch screen size is 3.6 inches and has a resolution of 480 x 640 pixels. It’s capable of displaying over 262,000 colors (18 bit).

The XDA Flame uses the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 OS and comes with 128 MB of RAM and 2 GB of internal flash memory. It can be expanded with MiniSD cards. It’s powered by an Intel XScale PXA 270 Processor at 520 MHz. Graphics are powered by an nVidia GoForce 5500 at 200 Mhz, giving the Flame 3D accelerated graphics. Its battery life is rated as having up to 6 hours of talk time and up to 200 hours on standby.

The O2 XDA Flame has 2 built in cameras. The primary one is the 2 megapixel CMOS camera with autofocus on the back and the secondary camera is on the front. This one is used for self portraits and video calls (Video Telephony). There is also a TV-out port for showing images in video on other devices such as monitors and projectors.

The XDA Flame can also operate on these network frequencies - GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS2100 and supports data transfer across CSD, GPRS and UMTS where supported. It also has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g capabilities as well as a USB connection, Bluetooth 2.0 and an infrared port for even more connectivity. The Flame is capable of running on 3G networks at speeds upwards to 384 kbps.

The Flame comes with Windows Mobile 5 on board, which gives you the Microsoft Office Mobile Suite for editing and creating Word and Excel documents and the ability to view PowerPoint presentations. You can view PDF files on it as well. Email is easily set up and utilized on the Flame. There’s a version of Outlook that offers Direct Push and synchronization capabilities. It also supports POP3 and IMAP HTML based email clients. SMS, MMS, and Instant Messaging are also supported as well.

Since this is a Windows Mobile device, set up and execution of these features is extremely easy. It also helps with synchronization with Windows ActiveSync. Actually, considering the fact that Windows Mobile is a complete operating system, the features are pretty vast.

There is a version of the Windows Media Player which supports AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA, MPEG4 and WMV file playback for all of your multimedia needs, making sure that you’re never bored in between projects, tasks and traveling. This device is also capable of playing FM radio. It’s also capable of playing polyphonic and MP3 ringtones.

The Flame’s fast processor speed and generous amounts of on board memory (2 GB) coupled with its separate nVidia graphics processor makes this a solid and steady device. If you want a smartphone that won’t let you down and can stand up to intense usage, then the Flame might just be the right one for you.
