Nokia E71 Review
The Nokia E71 is the successor to the Nokia E66 and is a part of Nokia’s “Eseries” line of web enabled smartphones. Its dimensions come in at 114 x 57 x 10 mm and weighs in at 127 grams. It comes in two colors, White Steel and Grey Steel. Its TFT QVGA screen size is 2.4 inches (diagonally) and has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It’s capable of displaying over 16 million (24 bit) colors. It comes with a full QWERTY keypad and a five way scroll key for navigation. The E71 has a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash. The camera can record video in mp4 and 3gp formats. There is a secondary camera that can be used for video calls and conferencing as well as self portraits.
The Nokia E71, like the E66 uses the Symbian OS v9.2, S60 3rd Edition OS and comes with 128 MB of RAM and 110 MB of ROM. It can be expanded with hot swappable microSD cards. It’s powered by an ARM 11 - 369 MHz Freescale processor. Its battery life is rated as having up to 10.5 hours of talk time and up to 410 hours on standby.
The Nokia E71 can also operate on these network frequencies – Quad Band GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 and Dual Band UMTS 850 and 1900. It supports data transfer across GPRS, EDGE and high speed HSDPA networks where supported. For further device connectivity the E71 has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g capabilities, a USB connection, Bluetooth 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate, and an infrared port. It supports these Bluetooth profiles: DUN, OPP, FTP, HFP, GOEP, HSP, BIP, RSAP, GAVDP, AVRCP, A2DP.
The E71 also comes with a built in GPS receiver and Assisted GPS (A-GPS) functionality. Maps can be downloaded through third party navigational software such as Tom Tom, CoPilot, Google Maps, Window’s Live Search, etc.
The E71 has several voice features such as Push to talk (PTT), text to speech, voice recorder, voice dial and voice commands. It also has a built in hands free speaker set up. As far as PIM (Personal Information Management) features, the E71 has all of the basics covered with contacts, calendar, printing options, to-do list etc.
The E71 comes with Nokia Office Tools 2.0 which provides productivity tools for various actions. This includes document viewers for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and PDF files. These tools also include a phone wide search feature, a file manager and zip file support. Email is easily set up and utilized on the E71. It can support POP3, IMAP and SMTP protocols and can sync with Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes through your PC. SMS, MMS (multimedia messaging), and Instant Messaging are also supported as well. Yahoo, MSN and AOL messaging clients are all supported.
This mobile device comes with a built in music player and FM radio with the Visual Radio function. It supports audio playback in MP3, MPEG-4, AAC, eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB, and AMR-WB formats and can record audio in AMR-WB and AMR-NB formats. Ringtones can use these same formats as well. It is capable of playing back video files with H.264 (MPEG-4), 3gpp, and Real codecs. The E71 can also stream both audio and video.
The Nokia E71 has a fully customizable interface. Profiles, themes, ringtones and even the home screen can be changed up based on your personal preference. Marketed to mostly business professionals, the E71 can definitely put you ahead of the game no matter what your profession is.
