The Nokia E90 Communicator is the successor to the Nokia E71 and is a part of Nokia’s “Eseries” line of web enabled smartphones. Its dimensions come in at 132 x 57 x 20 mm and weighs in at 210 grams. The E90 has two different displays due to its clamshell form, one on the outside and the main one on the inside. The outside screen is a 2 inch TFT with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The internal TFT screen size is 4 inches (diagonally) and has a resolution of 800 x 352 pixels. Both displays are capable of displaying over 16 million (24 bit) colors. When closed, the exterior resembles just a normal mobile phone; it has a numeric keypad and various function buttons. When opened It comes with a full QWERTY keyboard layout with various other quick launch and function buttons for added ease of navigation. The E90 has a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, flash and video recording. There is a secondary camera that can be used for video calls and conferencing as well as self portraits.

The Nokia E90 Communicator, like the E71 uses the Symbian OS v9.2, S60 3rd Edition OS and comes with 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM. It can be expanded with hot swappable microSD cards. It’s powered by a Texas Instruments OMAP ARM 11 - 330 MHz processor. Its battery life is rated as having up to 5.8 hours of talk time and up to 14 days on standby.

The Nokia E90 Communicator can also operate on these network frequencies – Quad Band GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900. It supports data transfer across HSDPA (up to 3.6Mbit/s enabled), WCDMA and GPRS/EGPRS (Class A, MSC 32) powered networks. For further device connectivity the E90 has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g capabilities (with security options), a USB connection, Bluetooth 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate and A2DP, and an infrared port. VOIP is provided through the integrated Wi-Fi.

The E90 also comes with a built in GPS receiver and Assisted GPS (A-GPS) functionality. The integrated GPS receiver comes with pre installed maps through Nokia Maps software. Maps can also be downloaded through third party navigational software such as Tom Tom, CoPilot, Google Maps, Window’s Live Search, etc.

The E90 has several voice features such as Push to talk (PTT), text to speech, voice recorder, voice dial and voice commands. It also has a built in hands free speaker set up. As far as PIM (Personal Information Management) features, the E90 has all of the basics covered with contacts, calendar, printing options, to-do list etc.

The E90 comes with Nokia Office Tools and a Quickoffice application which provides productivity tools for various actions. This includes document viewers and editors for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and PDF files. Email is easily set up and utilized on the E90. It can support POP3, IMAP and SMTP protocols and can sync with Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes through your PC. SMS, MMS (multimedia messaging), and Instant Messaging are also supported as well.

This mobile device comes with a built in music player and FM radio. It supports audio playback in MP3, MP4, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA formats. It is capable of playing back video files with through it’s built in Real video player. The E90 can also stream both audio and video.

For those that need even more functionality beyond that of a normal mobile device, then the E90 Communicator can give it to you. With its larger size and healthy suite of features, the E90 is simply everything you could need.
