Palm Treo Pro Review

The Pro is another in Palm’s popular line of Treo smartphone devices. It contains a couple of firsts for a Treo device. As the name “Pro” is intended to suggest, this model is supposed to be the current pinnacle of Palm Treo device. As for those firsts, it’s thinner than all of its predecessors and it has (finally) a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Its measurements come in at 4.49 inches in height by 2.36 inches in width by 0.53 inches in depth. It weighs just 4.6 ounces. The Treo Pro sports a flush, color TFT touch screen display with a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. It’s capable of displaying over 65,000 colors. Below the screen is the full QWERTY keypad. On the back the obsidian black Pro has a 2 megapixel camera with an 8x digital zoom and video capture. The Pro’s battery has a rated talk time of up to 5 hours and up to 250 hours of standby time.

It comes with 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM which is easily upgraded through the use of microSD cards. The Pro is powered by a 400 MHz Qualcomm MSM7201 processor. The Treo Pro operates on Quad GSM and Tri UMTS bands. It’s capable of transmitting data over GPRS, EDGE and highs speed HSDPA capable networks. For further connectivity, the Treo Pro has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g support with various security measures. In fact it even has one touch Wi-Fi access. The Pro also comes with full Bluetooth 2.0 support as well as an IR port. There is also built in GPS. The Treo Pro seems to have it all.

On the software side of things, the Pro is a Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition device. This means that it comes fully installed with all the productivity and multimedia tools you need to get started right away. Included with the Window’s Mobile OS itself are most of the features that PC users may be familiar with from their own Windows set up at home, just scaled down to mobile versions.
